Centre recommends Rs 1,500 cr for Loktak: CM

Imphal, December 06 2021: To help develop Loktak Lake as a more attractive tourist destination, the Centre has recommended a package worth Rs 1,500 crore, stated Chief Minister N Biren.

Biren made the announcement while speaking at a one-day "Interfaith Dialogue" organised by ISKCON at Hotel Classic Grande, Chingmeirong as chief guest.

The "Interfaith Dialogue" was organised in line with the 84th birth anniversary celebration of Bhaktisva-rupa Damodara Swami Singh.

Addressing the conference held on the theme ""The need of the global society today" which was attended by many religious leaders and personalities, the Chief Minister said that the present Government is constantly taking up numerous developmental works to help usher in a new era in the State.

With full dedication of the State Government and implementation of development and welfare measures, the State is progressing smoothly, he said and added that the State will soon achieve economic prosperity and create a niche of its own.

Considering the huge potential the Loktak Lake has as a tourist destination, the Centre has recommended Rs 1,500 crore to develop it as a world class tourism site, he said.

Once the amount is sanctioned, the State Government would invest all efforts to make Loktak Lake one of the most decorated and appealing lakes in the entire South East Asia, he said.

The Chief Minister, noting the significance of the "Interfaith Dialogue", also stressed on the importance of upholding mutual respect among all communities and people belonging to different religious segments and moving together on the path of development.

The State could only advance when all communities, irrespective of their religious beliefs, espouse the idea of oneness and live peacefully and harmoniously, he added.

Maintaining that it will be beneficial for the present and the upcoming generations to study the teachings and ideals left behind by revered spiritual leader like Damodara Swami, N Biren Singh also stated that the society is witnessing hostility and trust deficit among communities due to lack of understanding of valuable moral teachings.

To ameliorate the prevailing misunderstandings and chaotic situation, the need to emphasize on spiritual and moral values has been growing, he said.

The conference was also attended by managing director of Babina Groups, Th Dhabali; chairman of ISKCON, Manipur, Ekanath Das; Archbishop of Manipur State, Dominic Lumon DD; president of Jamiatul Ulama, Manipur, Maulana Sayeed Ahmed; general secretary of International Sanamahi Association and former Joint Director of Art and Culture Department, Sapamcha Bheigya and former Professor at MU, Dr W Nabakumar, among others.
