Imphal, October 06 2025: One individual was killed while four others sustained injuries when a four-wheeler vehicle (Eeco van) fell into the Barak River at Kathiko Karong, Senapati district under Karong police station in the wee hours today.

The tragic incident happened at around 1.30 am when a four-wheeler vehicle proceeding toward Imphal from Mao fell off a cliff near Mt Zion Higher Secondary School at Kathiko Karong and rolled down into the Barak River, sources said.

Luikang Jonah (25) s/o (L) Thomas of New Maram died on the spot and four others identified as Taiba Paul (25) s/ o Kangba of Maram Bazar, Wichunthuiliu (17) d/o Ashabou of Konsakhul, presently staying at Liangmei Taphou, Widaliu (17) d/o Chagengbou of Konsakhul Khunou, presently staying at Kanglatongbi and Lungbi Michael (24) s/o Solomon of Maram Bazar sustained injuries in the accident.

The dead body of Luikang Jonah was retrieved from the Barak River with the help of local people and police.

The body was later handed over to family members and relatives.

The injured persons were evacuated from the spot and admitted to Senapati District Hospital.

All of them are said to be stable, said the sources.
