UKLF advises against observing Black Day

Imphal, September 06, 2013: For permanent peace and reconciliation, days or occasions to recollect the past bitter experiences should be avoided, asserted the United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) with reference to the Kuki black Day observed by some section of Thadou speaking Kukis on September 13 since the last many years.

"It was on this day that the largest number of Kukis fell to the heartless killers (we called them NSCN(I-M) on this very day in 1993 in Tamenglong district, Mani-pur.

It was indeed a ghastly action on the part of the killers to have butchered innocent and defenceless people in such a manner", said a press release issued by the outfit's department of political affairs secretary David Haokip.

But time has changed, the days of those heartless ethnic conflict have gone.

UKLF deeply mourned those victims of the 4 year long conflicts between Nagas and Kukis.

During those period people of both the communities were driven into madness and they started killing people and burning down villages with no remorse at all.

Now those days are gone and the time now is to reconcile and walk hand in hand so that no such incident of madness is repeated in the future, it said.

However, by the grace of the Almighty, the period of madness, killing and destruction came to a stop not by the will and power of human being but by the will and power of the same Almighty.

It is really a high degree of madness and shame upon the communities who claim to be the followers of Lord Jesus Christ.

Lord Jesus preached peace, love, harmony and oneness and forgiveness but the Kukis and the Nagas of this part of the globe were doing the opposite.

Thus, both should come together and beg forgiveness to the Lord otherwise they are both stained with innocent blood already, it asserted.

The UKLF, right from its inception, was trying its best to bring permanent peace and reconciliation between the two communities and it also succeeded to some extent.

With this purpose in mind, the UKLF has expressed its standpoint loud and clear many times in the past as well as the present that both the communities must strive for achieving this goal if they want to have future.

In fact the UKLF has left no stone unturned for bringing lasting peace and social harmony since the past many years.

"Yes, we are being misunderstood by some people.

We might have been blamed for not caring or thinking for those luckless victims of ours".

"However, We are of the opinion that no one should recall or recollect the past mistakes/misdeeds.

We have had committed heinous crimes in the past, so many innocent lives have been killed, so many houses have been burnt to ashes, property worth crores of rupess have been lost, so many villages have been destroyed or relocated.

But we must remember that every thing has a time, so there may be a time to hate and go into war but there should be a time to stop and reconciled one another.

As we have had time to hate and war we must also have a time to forgive and forget the past.

This is the way of life", said the outfit.

"Once you start pondering and recollecting those unfortunate days when your dear and near ones are being butchered mercilessly, naturally you would become restless and to renew those days is always at hand", it added.

The UKLF further appealed to both the communities to start dialogue and come to a real peace.

"We also appeal time and again to the Kuki brethren not to observe the September 13 as Kuki Black Day since the observation of the day will only prolong the remembrance of those ugly days and it can affect permanent peace in the society", it added.
