Govindas assures IDPs

All unlawful armed groups in Manipur will be controlled and curbed within a year, and then efforts will be taken up to facilitate the return of internally displaced person (IDPs) to their original places, said Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam today.
He said this during his visit to Thambal Marik College Oinam Relief camp where an IDP, Wangjam Premjit, had been fasting since May 4 demanding Government crackdown against narco-terrorists and actions for rehabilitation of IDPs .
After assurances were given in person by the Home Minister, Premjit ended the fast-unto death stir.
Speaking to IDPs at the camp, Govindas said the new Government after the President's Rule is taking up effort to bring peace and foster peaceful coexistence of all communities.
Until and unless all the unlawful armed organisations are curbed, there will not be normalcy, he said.
The State along with the Union Home Ministry will control and curb all armed insurgent groups within a year, and then facilitate return of the IDPs, Govindas said, seeking cooperation of the public in the process.
Churachandpur Meitei United Committee co-convenor Naba Ningthoujam said Premjit's fast unto death stir has been called off respecting the assurances given by the Home Minister.
Representatives of the internally displaced persons at the camp also expressed confidence that the Home Minister would convert his assurances into action.
Oinam AC MLA Irengbam Nalini, DC Bishnupur Pooja Elangbam, SP Bishnupur Ksh Ravikumar and several Government officials accompanied the Home Minister.
