7 new fire service stations on the anvil

Imphal, October 05 2026:
Director of Manipur Fire Services Laishram Nabachandra has stated that the department is working to open seven new fire service stations in the State.
The Manipur Fire Services Department organised its 9th one-day basic fire and life safety training programme at its headquarters near Pologround, here, today.
The programme was participated by 213 employees of different Government departments.
Speaking at the programme, Nabachandra said the new fire stations would be set up at Porompat, Lilong, Yairipok, Saikul, Litan, Khumbong and Heirok very soon.

He said the training programme was organised to provide participants with basic knowledge of fire and life safety, as local people are often the first responders to fire-related incidents.
He stressed the importance of equipping people with basic firefighting and life-saving skills so that they can respond promptly to emergencies before professional firefighters arrive.
Nabachandra also said that people have a major role to play in preventing fire incidents from causing widespread destruction or loss of lives.
Saying that the Fire Services Department has trained thousands of people in fire and life safety, he added that the department has also been conducting inspection drives at schools, colleges, hotels and hospitals to check whether these establishments have adequate fire safety equipment and arrangements.
The department has also been conducting mock drills and awareness programmes on fire safety, he said.
Nabachandra said that the number of fire incidents has decreased considerably in the State.
Speaking as the chief guest, Imphal West Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar appealed to the public not to obstruct Fire Services personnel or attack their vehicles when they arrive late at the scene of a fire.
He urged people to cooperate with professional firefighters in dealing with fire-related incidents.
The Deputy Commissioner also lauded the Fire Services Department for its services to the people.
Imphal West Superintendent of Police Kshetrimayum Shivakanta was the guest of honour.
He said that the Fire Services Department has been working tirelessly amid the ongoing crisis in Manipur.
The SP appealed to the public to treat firefighters with respect and appreciation, as they work day and night to protect lives and property.
Experts spoke about basic fire safety during the technical session of the training programme.
