CM inspects flood hit areas in IE

Chief Minister N Biren Singh has inspected several flood affected areas in Imphal East, today.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Water Resources Minister Awangbow Newmai and Keirao AC MLA L Rameshwar Meetei while inspecting the flooded areas in Takhok under Keirao AC.
Speaking to the media by the sideline, N Biren said that Manipur has been witnessing natural calamities on different occasions this year.
Saying that the flood being witnessed now in the State is also a natural calamity, he added that the Water Resources Department will work out a flood mitigation plan.
He also said that the Chief Secretary has sent a proposal to the Centre for assistance.

Continuing that floods take place in other States and countries too, the Chief Minister added that natural calamities often take place even if adequate preventive measures are taken up.
Two people drowned in Senapati River a few days back while many farmlands and residential places are flooded in different parts of the State, he said and added that the Government has started distributing relief items to flood victims through the Deputy Commissioners concerned.
Relief camps have also been set up for the flood affected people, the Chief Minister continued.
Saying that the Government has been working to provide some compensation to people and farmers whose houses and crops got damaged in the flood, he said that the Government has also been providing tin sheets to people whose houses were damaged in the hailstorm of May 5 .
He thanked all the security forces and volunteers who have been carrying out rescue operations to help the flood victims.
Awangbow Newmai, on the other hand, said that the Government has identified vulnerable banks of the major rivers passing through the valley districts to carry out repair and maintenance work.
A proposal has been sent to the Centre to sanction Rs 400 crore for the project.
