The celebration of the World Environment Day started way back in 1974 and despite years of observation celebration some sections continued to harm the environment causing many ecological imbalances and other adverse effects, said the Yaralpat Integrated Farming Co-Operative Society Ltd in a press note.

A collective effort is required to curb activities which are harmful to the environment, the society said.

This year's theme of the day is 'ecosystem restoration', it said while adding that the society members planted trees to assist towards the cause and help reduce pollution, ecological imbalance and other undesirable effects caused due to deforestation and other activities.

The farmers under the society have taken up immense work to restore the former self of Yaralpat, it said while adding that birds and other animals have started showing up and feeding at the wetland (Yaralpat) again after years.

Expressing gratitude to all the members who played their part in protecting and restoring the wetland, the society also urged the Government to assist in conserving the wetland which has been providing many resources to people in and around Yaralpat.
