The former director of Directorate of State Health Services, Dr Huidrom Hemchandra Singh along with his two associate doctors and one cashier who were charged of misappropriating health services funds, were sent to jail today after more than three hours hearings by the session judge, Manipur East.
Even as the verdict remanding them in judicial custody was announced, wife of one of the accused fainted just after stepping out of the door of the courtroom.
Meanwhile the police personnel who produced the four accused persons before the session judge, Manipur East, quietly took them away from the scene avoiding further attention.
Before issuing the verdict for remanding the four accused persons in the judicial custody till June 18 next, the session judge, Maibam Binoykumar Singh, observed that it will not be proper to release them on bail as he found sufficient ground for making further investigation against the accused persons in respect of the alleged offence.
The session judge also perused all the relevant documents including case diary as well as heard the accused persons who were kept in the dock in person.
Dr H Hemchandra Singh, the former director, Dr Huidrom Shyamacharan Singh, retired additional director, Dr Kshetrimayum Devenkumar Singh, additional director and Laimayum Joykumar Sharma, cashier had filed medical certificates in order to show that they are ill through their counsel they pleaded for grant of bail.
However, the session judge after considering the relevant documents, the nature of the alleged offences and the stage of the police investigation, refused their bail applications.
It may be mentioned that the personnel of the Imphal police station produced them before the same judge on June 2 last after they were picked up from their respective residence.
