Workshop on role of media starts

A two-day workshop on 'Media in mediatory role' was opened today at Mass Communication Dept, Manipur University.
Prof HNK Sarma, Vice Chancellor of MU, S Somor-jit, Director of DIPR and S Bharat Bhusan, former Editor of Huiyen Lanpao were pre-sent at the inaugural function.
It was jointly organized by Mass Communication Dept, MU, All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU), Manipur Hills Journalists Union (MHJU), Women in Media Network India (WMNI), Peoples' Dialogue Initiatives (PDI) and Volunteers for Village Development (VVD), Ukhrul, Manipur in collaboration with Action Aid Association (AAA), Regional Office, Guwahati and Henry Martin Institute (HMI), Hyderabad.
Speaking at the occasion Prof HNK Sarma said that the role of media in conflict-affected States like Manipur is crucial and such workshop would be helpful in various ways.
Seniors journalists, Editors, Reporters and NGOs attended the workshop.
The workshop would follow 'facilitated explorative participa- tory process of learning' by drawing from the experiences of senior media persons from across three neighbouring states; Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland.
The workshop emphasized on path-breaking efforts to find ways in which media may play a mediatory role to facilitate peace processes in the protracted violent social and political conflicts in the State in the absence of any institutional mechanism and organized efforts to mediate conflicts in the State.
