Senapati/Ukhrul/Chandel/Tamenglong, August 03 2026: Nagas across Manipur observed the 11th anniversary of the signing of the Framework Agreement today, and urged the Government of India to honour the agreement and bring about an honourable and acceptable solution.

People in large numbers took out a peaceful rally and converged at the traffic island in Senapati.

Under the aegis of the United Naga Council (UNC), the Naga Peoples' Organization (NPO), Senapati District Students Association (SDSA) and Senapati District Women's Association (SDWA) spearheaded the observance.

A declaration was then adopted in a public meeting.

The public declaration states that the Nagas honour and fully support the Framework Agreement, and it is the fervent wish of the Naga people that the FA is implemented in letter and spirit for an honourable and acceptable solution at the earliest.

"It is therefore our fervent appeal to the Government of India to exercise the indispensable political will and sincerity to give effect and substance to the principles mutually agreed upon in the Framework Agreement and thereby turn the page of history to an era of peace and harmonious co-existence of the two entities," part of the declaration states.

Similar declarations were adopted by Nagas in other districts, and submitted to their respective Deputy Commissioners.

Addressing the public, Ng Lorho, president, UNC, stated that a political solution based on the Frame- work Agreement is the cherished dream of the Nagas.

The Framework Agreement was signed between the NSCN (IM) and the Government of India on August 3, 2015 in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

However, the Government of India has made a U-turn, betraying the essence of the Framework Agreement in letter and spirit by denying to acknowledge the Naga National Flag and its sovereign Constitution, which are the two inseparable components that constitute the identity of a Nation, Lorho said.

With the political talks between the "two entities" dragging on since August 1, 1997 without any logical conclusion yet, the patience of the Nagas is wearing thin, he said.

Nagas must stand their ground firmly and remain united in their march towards a common political aspiration, and the Government of India must demonstrate genuine political will and sincerity in resolving the Indo-Naga political issue, he added.

NPO president Kuba Peter, SDSA president A Solony Tony, SDWA president P Delilah Pao and many other civil body leaders were present.

Ukhrul

Tangkhul frontal organizations led by the Tangkhul Naga Long took out a public rally in Ukhrul urging the Government of India to honour the Framework Agreement.

Before the public rally, a meeting was held at the Phungreitang town hall.

TNL president Sword Vashum said the day commemorates the signing of the FA and "shows our solemn affirmation to our collective leadership" .

However after 11 years, the GoI has "betrayed the Nagas by delaying and defying the assurance as pronounced by PM Modi on the day of signing the Framework Agreement in Delhi," Vashum said, reminding the Government of India to honour the agreement in letter and spirit.

During the rally later organised to submit the public declaration to the DC, people waved the rainbow colour "Naga National flags" and raised slogans, seeking a permanent solution and urging the Government of India to stop implementing "regressive policies" .

The rallyists also called on the Government to stop militarization, and showed their "unflinching support" to the collective leadership of the Nagas.

Chandel

The Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO) and other civil bodies led the observance at Chandel.

Presidents and representatives of 11 Naga Hohos, student bodies including ANSAM and Church leaders attended the observance and participated in a massive rally.

Tamenglong

The 11th anniversary of the FA was also observed at the premises of the UBC in Tamenglong DHQs.

A copy of the declaration adopted was submitted to the district's Deputy Commissioner by the Joint Tribes' Council Manipur.
