Former Minister AS Arthur; spouse of late Rishang no more

Imphal, May 02 2026: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand has condoled the demise of veteran politician and former Minister AS Arthur.

AS Arthur passed away today at New Delhi.

He was 99 .

AS Arthur was elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly from Ukhrul Assembly Constituency, and also served as Minister of Forest & Environment and General Administration.

AS Arthur was a dedicated leader with integrity and an inspiration for his people, Khemchand said in a condolence message.

"On his demise, we have lost an accomplished politician and a great public leader.

His absence will leave a huge void in the political circle of the State and he will be remembered dearly by each one of us", it said.

The Chief Minister has also conveyed deepest condolence and sympathy to the bereaved family.

On behalf of the Chief Minister, Media Advisor Oinam Sunil visited the residence of the late man at Shangakpham today and presented a token of love to his daughter Yirmiyan Arthur Yhome.

Wife of former Chief Minister and late Raishang Keishing, Khathingla Keishing also passed away today.

The Media Advisor too visited the residence of the late Keishing at Mantripukhri and met her son, former MLA Victor Keishing, and passed on the condolence of the Chief Minister.

She was 96.Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Th Satyabrata has also condoled the demise of AS Arthur.

A condolence message sent by the Speaker said that AS Arthur was a distinguished public figure who dedicated his life to public service with integrity and commitment.

Contributions of AS Arthur to the State will be remembered with respect and gratitude, Satyabrata said.

The Speaker has also extended condolences to the bereaved family, including MP (Lok Sabha) Alfred Kanngam Arthur and all who mourn AS Arthur's demise.

Meanwhile, the Naga Peoples' Union, Imphal has condoled the demise of AS Arthur, former Minister and father of current MP (Outer) Alfred Kanngam S Arthur and Khathingla Keishing, wife of late Rishang Keishing, former Chief Minister of Manipur.
