Imphal, July 01 2024:
Ruling MLAs have decided to stay put at Delhi until they meet Central leaders including the Prime Minister and normalcy is restored in Manipur.
Considering the prolonged anarchy in Manipur and the existing status of the State Government which has diminished all their future prospects, the ruling MLAs came to an agreement to go to Delhi and call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Central leaders with a fervent request to do something concrete so as to bring normalcy in Manipur, sources informed.
There were some divisions or gaps among the ruling MLAs but a few of them have been working hard to bridge the gap and bring all the ruling MLAs together.
They have also been communicating with their colleagues who are currently at Delhi.
The MLAs currently at Delhi may come back soon and all the ruling MLAs may attend the mega Government function which would be held at City Convention Centre on July 3, and they may start leaving for Delhi on the same day in the afternoon, said the sources.
If they are given appointments with the Prime Minister and other Central leaders, they would urge the Central leaders to take up some concrete measures so as to bring peace and normalcy in Manipur.
The ruling MLAs have already talked about the matter and they are trying to reach a consensus on supporting whoever is selected by the Central leadership as the State Government's new leader, informed the sources.
In case the ruling MLAs are not given appointment with the Prime Minister and other Central and they choose to stay put at Delhi, the State Assembly's full budget session which would be held in the month of July may be severely jeopardised, said the sources.
Vote on accounts for the four months from April to July of the financial year 2024-25 has been already passed by the State Assembly.
Full budget for the months of August 2024 to March 2025 must be passed by the State Assembly.
If the State Assembly's full budget session is not held and the budget for the current financial year is not passed within the month of July, the State Government would not be able to spend a single rupee from the Government accounts, the sources added.
