Imphal, June 01 2024:
The Imagi Meira and the women's committee of Delhi Meetei Co-Ordinating Com-mittee (DMCC) have submitted a lengthy memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah and urged the Central leadership to 'stop siding' with Kuki militants and restore normalcy in the State.
In a memorandum dated 30th May 2024, Imagi Meira and DMCC (women's committee) also urged the Cen- tral leaders to let the National investigation agencies investigate all the attacks carried out against Meeteis, State forces and BSF by the Kuki armed militants, implement NRC in Manipur, destroy all poppy plantations and save forests in the State.
In the opening paragraph of the memorandum, the two organisations charged that the Prime Minister Office (PMO) has not shown any sympathy to the people of Manipur who have been living in a civil-war like situation since the last over one year.
People are left to fend for themselves due to the complete failure of the State authority in protecting the lives and properties of the civilians, the memorandum added.
Meeteis are compelled to believe that the Government of India is siding with the Kuki militants through the institutional arrangement of the "Suspension of Operation" pact, the two organisation said and asked why the Government is not taking up any action against the Kuki militants for attacking civilians and the security forces alike.
Saying that the first attack on Meeteis was carried out on May 3, 2023 at Torbung Bangla in Bishnupur, eight Meetei villages in Chura-chandpur, Ekou in Kang- pokpi, eight Meetei localities at Moreh in Tengnoupal district, the two organisations added that 13 Meetei villages were also attacked brutally on May 28, 2023 and killed 12 Meeteis including two State force personnel .
It said that two Kukis were also killed on May 28, 2023 .
These coordinated attacks on Meeteis on May 28 were carried out when General Manoj Panday, Chief of the Army Staff and chief of Eastern Command Lieutenant General RP Kalita were in Imphal, the memorandum said.
There was also a series of coordinated attacks on Manipur police for over a week from December 31, 2023 to January 8, 2024 at Moreh, the Imagi Meira and DMCC (women's wing) reminded and claimed that the Assam Rifles at Moreh didn't do anything when BSF and State force personnel were attacked at the border town on January 2, 2024 .
Claiming that the Kuki militants have been enjoying impunity due to the SoO agreement, the two organisations added that Assam Rifles knows the locations of all the camps of Kuki militants and as such they can thwart the attack of Kuki militants if they act in sync with the State forces and BSF.
Asking why the Central leadership is allowing the violence in Manipur to linger on, the two organisations added that the Meeteis have been selectively targeted, attacked, isolated and victimised under the watch of the Prime Minister.
