Two arrested in HSLCE question paper leak case

Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the leak of the High School Leaving Certificate Examination (HSLCE) Social Science question paper, which surfaced online on February 25.The arrests were made during the course of an investigation initiated after a complaint was lodged by the Controller of Examination, Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BSEM).
According to a press release issued by SP Cyber Crime, a case was registered at the Cyber Crime police station and traced the source of the leak, questioning multiple individuals and following leads to uncover the chain of events that led to the unauthorised circulation of the question paper.
The investigation revealed that the leak originated from Little Star English Higher Secondary School, Haokha with a teacher and vice president of the school as the main accused.
The main accused were identified as Samadram Meghachandra Singh (46) son of S Ibotombi of Haokha Mamang Leikai, Thoubal district, who is a Social Science teacher at the school and was designated as the Assistant Officer-in-Charge (AOC) of the examination centre, and Yumnam Ranjit Singh (46) son of Yumnam Shamu, also of Haokha Mamang Leikai, who serves as the vice-president of the school.
Both accused were arrested on Saturday after completing necessary legal formalities.
The police also seized mobile phones from them, which were suspected to have been used in the illegal circulation of the question paper.
The government had previously enacted the Prevention of Malpractices in High School Leaving Certificate and Higher Secondary Examination Act, 2024, to curb exam-related malpractices.
This law sets stringent measures to ensure fair examinations and maintain the credibility of the education system.
Police reiterated their commitment to upholding the integrity of examinations and have assured that strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty of similar offenses.
