New MUSU team takes charge, VC exhorts to work for students' welfare

Imphal, September 30 2026:
The newly elected office bearers and class representatives of Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) for academic session 2026-27 took oath at Court Hall, Manipur University on Wednesday.
The ceremony coincided with the 130th Birth Anniversary of Hijam Irabot.
The University paid floral tribute to the leader on the occasion.
Vice Chancellor Prof RK Hemakumar Singh, who is also patron of MUSU, congratulated the new team and acknowledged contributions of outgoing leadership, teachers, students and all involved in conducting the election.

Recalling his association with an earlier MUSU election, he hoped the new representatives would work constructively for students' welfare.
MUSU Election Committee member Dr Khwairakpam Herachandra Singh delivered the welcome address and said coinciding with Irabot's anniversary added significance.
Returning Officer Prof A Dilip Kumar Singh spoke on peaceful conduct of election with cooperation of the University community.
Dean of Students' Welfare Prof Ch Ibohal Singh urged the union to hold an early meeting to prepare an annual calendar, assess budget and maintain intervals between activities.
He stressed collective decision-making and studying MUSU Constitution.
Newly elected president Laishram Sanathoi Singh thanked students for their trust and called for teamwork.
Outgoing president Nongpoknganba Yambem also congratulated the new team.
The seven office bearers are Laishram Sanathoi Singh (president), Sober Chingangbam (vice-president), Loukrakpam Tomba Meitei (general secretary), Lanthoinganba Yumnam (finance secretary), Alvin Nongmaithem (cultural secretary), Mahesh Laishram (sports secretary) and Kaminikumar Leimapokpam (literary & publication secretary) .
Sagolsem Roshan Singh was elected research scholars' representative, along with class representatives from departments.
With oath-taking, the Election Committee comprising Prof A Dilip Kumar Singh as Returning Officer and Dr Khwairakpam Herachandra Singh and Dr Huidrom Suraj Singh as members was dissolved.
