Imphal, December 31 2024:
In a letter to the chairman of Zomi Council, the apex body of Thadou tribe Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) has requested for genuine Thadou individuals to be exempted from the ongoing tensions between the Kuki and Zomi groups in Churachandpur.
The letter bearing the signature of M James Thadou, president, TIM, made a request to the Zomi Council and its frontal bodies to sensitize the volunteers from harming or restricting the movement of Thadou individuals "who are not Kukis" in light of the complex history and sensitive nature of the conflict.
This would be a significant step towards promoting peace, understanding and respect for human rights, it added.
TIM also highlighted the importance of recognizing and respecting the distinct identity of the Thadou people, "which is separate from the Kuki group" .
Furthermore, it appealed to both the Zomi and Kuki groups to engage in peaceful dialogue and work towards a mutually respectable solution for peaceful coexistence amongst all communities in Churachandpur district.
