Oriental College holds awareness on Multiple Sclerosis

Imphal, May 30 2025:
Oriental College (Autonomous), Takyelpat, in collaboration with the Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRCSRE), Imphal, organised a one-day awareness programme on Multiple Sclerosis (MS) on Friday.
The event, organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) was held at the college's conference hall with the participation of students, faculty, non-teaching staff of the college, and officials from the CRCSRE.

The programme aims to raise awareness of Multiple Sclerosis - a chronic and often misunderstood neurological condition affecting the central nervous system - while fostering discussion on early diagnosis, available therapies, and rehabilitation support, said a release of the college.
The event was held with dean of science L Wormila Hungyo as chief guest and dean of arts Dr Gurumayum Ranita Devi as functional president, while Directorate of Health Services medical officer Dr Takhellambam Rebika Devi director of CRCSRE N Khoibi Singh were the guests of honour.
In his opening address, IQAC coordinator Kongkham Biplob Singha highlighted Oriental College's Institutional Policy for Persons with Disabilities, reaffirming the institution's commitment to fostering an inclusive and accessible learning environment.
He outlined the ongoing initiatives aimed at promoting equality and support for differently-abled students through infrastructure improvements, sensitisation efforts, and academic accommodations.
The technical session commenced with a presentation by Dr Takhellambam Rebika, who offered valuable insights into the medical aspects of Multiple Sclerosis, covering its causes, symptoms, progression, treatment options, and long-term outlook.
This was followed by Dr Chanam Lokeshwori Devi, who elaborated on physiotherapeutic interventions, underlining the importance of mobility assistance, muscle strengthening, and maintaining functional independence.
N Khoibi concluded the session with an overview of CRCSRE's services in the region, focusing on skill development, rehabilitation, and empowerment of persohs with disabilities, the release continued.
The programme proved effective not only in educating participants about a complex health condition but also in reaffirming the joint efforts of Oriental College and CRCSRE to promote inclusive education and health awareness, it added.
