Loumi Lup urges MLAs to help crisis-hit farmers

Expressing concern over plight of farmers unable to tend to their fields located in the foothills due to the existing threat perception, Manipur Loumi Lup has appealed to local MLAs for extending assistance to the farmers in resuming agricultural activities in the said areas.
In a statement, Loumi Lup drew the attention of the MLAs in the 'red zone' areas while acknowledging that ministers Dr Ranjan and H Dingo have already initiated measures to assist farmers in their respective assembly constituencies to plant crops in the foothill areas.
Likewise, MLAs in Bishnupur, Kakching, Thoubal, Imphal West and Imphal East districts which border Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts should engage state and central forces to facilitate crop plantation in the foothill areas.
In case the said MLAs make efforts agricultural works in approximately 10,000 hectares of land, which remained fallow due to the crisis, would be possible, expressed the Lup.
The statement also urged the state government to ensure that the compensation for farmers affected by the crisis and cyclone, sanctioned by the central government, reaches the beneficiaries as soon as possible.
Additionally, the government should ensure that the barrage and projects implemented to support double cropping supply uninterrupted water to the fields.
Essential supplies for Kharif crops, such as seedlings and fertilizers, should also be made readily available to farmers, stressed the Lup.
