Kakching, July 25 2024:
Expressing concern over the number of people including women tortured and killed ever since the crisis broke out on May 3 last year, Khunai Kanba Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (KHUKAMPAL)-2, Kakching district contended that the only means to put an end to all unwanted issues and restore peace and tranquility in the state is the removal of the Assam Rifles from the soil of Manipur.
Addressing media persons at Wangjing Khunou on Tuesday, KHUKAMPAL secretary RK Lakshmi opined that the crisis will continue until the Assam Rifles is removed, as they are unwilling to stop Kuki militants from attacking innocent Meetei people.
Lakshmi accused the Assam Rifles of remaining passive while Kuki militants burned Meetei houses in Sugnu, Napat, and Serou on May 28 last year and obstructing state forces and village volunteers from intervening.
Similar incidents in other regions have perpetuated the ongoing crisis, she said, adding that Assam Rifles is unsuitable for the region due to their involvement in torturing women and violating human rights, leading to a complete loss of public trust.
Therefore, she called for their withdrawal from Manipur and emphasised the need to strengthen the state forces instead.
