An interaction programme between Bishnupur deputy commissioner (DC) and a group of internally displacedpersons (IDPs) was held at Bishnupur Mini Secretariat complex on Thursday.
The IDPs numbering 13 had participated in a 15-day Livelihood Professional Development Training conducted in Gaya, Bihar exclusively for IDPs of relief camps in Bishnupur district, under the initiative of the Manipur State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MSRLM) with the support of the government of Manipur.
On Thursday, DC Lourembam Bikram engaged in discussions with the 13 IDPs during the interaction programme jointly organised by the district administration and MSRLM Bishnupur.
Held in the presence of additional district magistrate (ADM) Toijam Opendro, MSRLM SMM IBCB Kavita Gurumayum, SISD district coordinator Thokchom Somia, and block-level cluster coordinators, the IDPs shared their experiences on the training in Bihar, and expressed readiness to form Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Manipur.
They requested support from the government and departments concerned to enhance their economic prospects.
The IDPs urged the authorities to provide the necessary assistance to help them achieve self-sufficiency.
In response, DC Bikram assured support to the IDPs, while announcing that women IDPs who participated in the training will receive assistance through formation of SHGs under the MSRLM initiative.
