Imphal, September 24 2024:
Zeme Students' Organisation Manipur (ZSOM), Tousem Area Students' Organisation (TASO), Chramram Segment Voice (CSV) and Tousem Headquarters Students' Union (THSU) have announced imposition of indefinite shutdown of NH-37 in Tousem sub-division's jurisdiction from Tuesday midnight.
In a joint release, the Tousem bodies informed that the shutdown is in response to the state government's failure to address their demand for reallocating the SDO office, presently at Tamenglong district headquarters, to Tousem sub-divisional headquarters.
As a 30-day ultimatum served evoked no positive response, the organisations are left with no option but to intensify their agitation, the joint release maintained, while declaring that the total shutdown will continue until the government honours the demand.
Essential services such as medical emergencies, education institution, Fire Services, and Electricity Department will be exempted from purview of the agitation, said the organisations and asserted that the government of Manipur shall be held responsible in case of disturbance or untoward incidents during the shutdown.
The organisations further called upon all groups, civil societies, and individuals to extend full support till justice is served.
