Imphal, February 24 2025:
Unique Business Association, Chandel (UBAC) has demanded the Forest Department to initiate investigation against the Chandel divisional forest officer.
In a release, UBAC general secretary Angpu Khular expressed 'total' dissatisfaction with the functioning of Chandel Forest Division.
Despite paying the required amount as per the receipt issued by the Forest Office, the Chandel DFO is imposing additional, unaccounted fees for routine services, thereby increasing financial burden on individuals and organisations.
This illegal fee collection has led to a complete loss of trust in the present DFO, who is eveh charging for transporting bricks from Kakching to Chandel for personal and local use, alleged the secretary.
UBAC also urged for corrective measures by designating an officer who is just, dutiful and able to understand the needs and plight of the communities under Chandel Forest Division by ensuring transparency in financial matters and provide clear justification for any charges levied.
"We also appeal to higher authorities to conduct an independent audit of the department's activities and take necessary steps to improve accountability and efficiency," it said.
