Webinar on "Functioning of UT Review Committee" held

Imphal, May 23 2021: In connection with a Supreme Court order to reduce the number of prisoners in jails, National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) conducted a webinar on "Functioning of Under Trial (UT) Review Committee" on Sunday.

During the webinar, NALSA director spoke about the importance, origin and framework of the Committee.

The webinar was attended by State Legal Services Authority member secretaries and District Legal Services Authority secretaries, all of whom conveyed about inability to hold physical meetings due to Covid-19 and the ground reality of not being able to visit the jails.

Mention may be made here that it has been the main objective of Legal Services Authorities to provide legal services to prisoners and as such, the Under Trial Review Committee has a key role to play in this regard, especially during the pandemic.
