Waqf Board to take over Khelakhong Madrassa

In a bid to enhance education for the Meitei Pangal community and foster* equitable society, the Waqf Board will take over the management of Khelakhong Khongjil High Madrassa (KKHM) beginning this academic session.
This was announced by Md Tajuddin, the project officer of the Waqf Board, during the prize distribution ceremony of the 1st Annual Sports Meet 2025 of the High Madrassa, held on Thursday.
Md Tajuddin informed that decision to entrust the Board for overseeing the madrassa's development is part of a broader mission under Lilong MLA Abdul Nasir, and guidance of chief minister N Biren Singh to realise the goal for enhancing educational opportunities to the minority Meitei Pangal and bring the community at par with students of other communities to ultimate establish an egalitarian society.

As a first step, the Waqf Board began operating Sunrise Public School, providing free education to Meitei Pangal students while the second phase will see the Board taking charge of the KKHM from this academic year.
The school will now offer free books and uniforms to students, said Md Tajuddin, adding that plans for infrastructure development are also underway.
The function was attended by Waqf Board Sub Committee chairman and KKHM Managing Committee chairman Md Iqbal Ahamed and member Azad Khan as chief guest and president respectively, while Board members Md Asker Ali and Deepak Shah, project officer Md Tajuddin, who is also the principal of KKHM, Waqf Board Madrassa Modernisation project officer Md Rahimuddin, KKHM vice principal Md Riyajuddin, ex-Zila Parishad member Md Islauddin and Sunrise Public School, Lilong Nungei vice principal Md Aslam Khan were the guests of honour.
