Arms recovered, tribute event held

Imphal, August 22 2024:
Acting on specific intelligence of presence of arms and ammunition in area under Tekcham Maning Ching in Thoubal district, a joint team of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police launched search operation on Thursday leading to recovery of one each 9mm carbine, bolt action rifle and M20 pistol, two 9mm pistols, 11 grenades, ammunition of mortar and war like stores.
The recovered items have been handed over to the Manipur police, PRO IGAR (S) informed in a release.
The PRO further conveyed that Assam Rifles organised a wreath-laying ceremony to honour rifleman (general duty) Chandra Sekhar Singh of 4 Assam Rifles, who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation, at the War Memorial.
According to the PRO, on August 17, 1994, a patrol party of 4 Assam Rifles, comprising 3 junior commissioned officers and 41 other ranks, was conducting a search operation along the Chassad-Imphal Road.
At approximately 10 am while searching the general area RM 9401, the troop's came under heavy fire from insurgents during which rifleman Chandra Sekhar Singh sustained a gunshot wound and tragically succumbed to his injuries on August 22, 1994.The ceremony commenced with the wreath laying followed by a motivational speech delivered to all ranks narrating the story of the brave heart in the service of nation, the PRO added.
