Imphal, January 22 2025:
All Manipur ASHA Workers' Union has announced that all ASHA workers would commence cease work strike from Thursday onwards, in view of the government's failure to address their demands.
In a press meet held at Manipur Press Club here on Wednesday, Union president Samina Begum recounted that the ASHA Workers had already warned of launching cease work strike, through the media, from January 22 if their demands are not addressed.
However, as the government and the department failed to provide a positive response, the cease work protest would begin as scheduled.
If any ASHA worker is found violating the mandate, they would be responsible for any action taken against them by the Union, she warned.
Asserting that increasing the honorarium and regularising the ASHA workers are reasonable demands, she said that a memorandum in this regard had been sent to the health minister, who assured to discuss the same in the cabinet meeting.
However, no action has been taken up till date.
As such, ASHA workers will not carry out any medical or NRHM related works, or participated in the Republic Day celebrations.
If the department tries to coerce or force them to work, then the department would bear the responsibility for any action taken by the Union, she further cautioned.
