Sit-in condemns bomb threat

Imphal, December 16 2024: Residents of Kairang Makha Leikai strongly condemned the threat and intimidation to special contractor Thokchom Shankar of Kairang Makha Leikai Lane 3 under Heingang Police Station, Imphal East, by placing a hand grenade at the residential gate on the night of December 15.A sit-in protest was organised on Monday by local Meira Paibi Lup, where residents expressed their outrage over the incident.

Keishang Leisung, a Meira Paibi member, denounced the bomb threat, stating it has disrupted the peaceful atmosphere of the locality.

She appealed to those responsible to resolve issues through dialogue rather than intimidation.

On the other hand, in a press release, the village authorities of Kairang Makha Leikai East and Kairang Makha Leikai West described the act as despicable, cowardly, and a grave shock to the peaceful community, which has never faced such violence before.

They highlighted the fear, anxiety, and distress caused by the incident, which they termed as unacceptable in a civilised society.

The joint statement issued by the chairmen of the two village authorities, Ningam Siro and Lungnimpa Anthangmi, unequivocally rejected violence as a means of conflict resolution and demanded immediate action from authorities to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible for the heinous crime.

They also called on armed groups to cease such destructive activities and urged peaceful, lawful dialogue to resolve grievances.
