MU remembers 'horrors of partition'

Imphal, August 14 2024:
To honour and remember the untold suffering and pain endured by millions of individuals during the India-Pakistan partition in 1947, Committee on Observance of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day 2024 Manipur University organised Partition Horrors Remembrance Day 2024 on Wednesday at the varsity's central museum.
The observance was attended by Manipur University vice chancellor Prof N Lokendra Singh as chief guest, Dean of Social Sciences Prof Th Purnima Devi as guest of honour, senior citizen Laishram Jatra Singh as special guest and MU Department of History head and observance committee convenor Dr Chungmeijai Mathew MK as functional president in the presence of guests, faculty members, research scholars, and university students.
Special guest Jatra Singh also inaugurated an exhibition displaying 52 posters of Partition of India to remember the partition's tragedy and agony.
As a part of the observance, a play entitled 'Imagidamak' based on partition of India directed by Ksh Tejkeshore, was also presented by Manipur University students.
MU VC Prof N Lokendra Singh pointed out the importance of observing the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day 2024 and called upon people to avoid violence and acts that would affect humanity adversely but to create an atmosphere of oneness and social harmony.
He also recalled stories of the survivors of the partition, while emphasising the need to collective work for a better future and society where there is peace and harmony.
