Imphal, January 14 2025:
The Manipur Minorities and Other Backward Classes Economic Development Society (MOBEDS), under the Chief Minister's Lairik Heiminnasi initiative, conducted a 6-month Remedial Coaching programme at TG Higher Secondary School on Tuesday, along with distributing study materials to the students participating in the coaching sessions.
The coaching classes, aimed at students in classes XI and XII, are funded by the Department of Minorities, OBC, and SC.
The function was attended by department of minorities joint director Bhabananda Ph and TG Higher Secondary School principal Dr Vinita Devi Elangbam as chief guest and president respectively while minority, OBC and SC department joint director Linda Ningombam and Remedial Coaching scheme officer APO Md Alam were the guests of honour.
In his address, Md Alam explained that the remedial coaching programme had been suspended for some time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Although preparations for the current coaching began in 2023, it was delayed due to the ongoing crisis in the state since May 2023 .
As a result, the coaching is being conducted in 2025 .
He further informed that the coaching is being offered at 20 centres across the state for pre-matric students (classes VIII to X) and at 8 centres for post-matric students (classes XI and XII).
Acknowledging the growing trend of private tutoring, which often burdens students from economically disadvantaged families, MOBEDS has organised this remedial coaching programme to support students in both the hills and plains, he said and added that this initiative is unique to Manipur and has not been implemented in other states.
During the event, school bags, notebooks and other stationery items were distributed to the students.
