Yairipok protests arrest of AT leader

Thoubal, June 10 2025: Even as his family members pleaded for the unconditional release of Ar-ambai Tenggol leader Asem Kanan arrested by the CBI, a sit-in protest was held in his hometown Yairipok demanding his unconditional release, on Tuesday.

Laimanai Youth Club (LYC) and Laimanai Apunba Meira Paibi jointly organised the sit-in at Yairipok Laimanai multipurpose community hall on Tuesday, participated by large number of locals, club members and meira paibi activists.

The demonstrators demanded Kanan's unconditional release within 24 hours, while asserting that the charges levelled against him were baseless and unacceptable.

The protesters displayed placards with slogans such as "Government of India should stop attempt to destroy Manipur", "Release AT leader Kanan immediately", "Stop acting with partiality", "Village volunteers should not be arrested", "Meeteis cannot be obliterated" and "Protect lives and property of the people".

According to LYC president Araba Meitei, Kanan had played a crucial role in Arambai Tenggol's efforts to defend Manipur's territorial integrity since the onset of the crisis on May 3.He called for the immediate withdrawal of all the charges and legal provisions under which Kanan has been arrested, and demanded his unconditional release.

Meanwhile, Kanan's family also appealed to the authorities not to level unfounded charges intended to prolong his detention.

Speaking to the media at their Yairipok Laimanai residence, Kanan's wife, two daughters and son highlighted that his actions were not for personal gain but for the protection of the state, motivated by spirit of self-sacrifice.

The family expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the volunteers of Arambai Tenggol and the public for their continued support.

They reiterated their plea to the government for Kanan's immediate and unconditional release.
