Tree plantation, cleanliness drive mark World Environment Day

Observance of World Environment Day under the theme 'Putting an end to plastic pollution' was marked by tree plantations and conduct of cleanliness drive on Thursday.
Pravabati College, Mayang Imphal's Department of Environmental Science, Botany and Geography, IQAC and Students' Union jointly organised World Environment Day at the college mini conference hall.
Teachers and students of the college planted tree saplings emphasising the importance of environmental conservation.
Intas Foundation's Apna Ghar organised World Environment Day, 2025 at its Keishamthong Irom Pukhri Mapal office.
This year's activity centred on creation of eco-friendly paper bags using old newspapers.
Manipur Cycle Polo Association members planted tree saplings at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex and conducted cleanliness drive as a part of World Environment Day observance.
On the other hand, around 500 saplings including 300 stink bean tree saplings and 200 saplings of different ornamental trees were planted in Lamsang, Koutruk, Kadangband, Kangchup Chingkhong, Phayeng and Tairenpokpi areas.
Similarly, around 480 tree saplings were planted in the surrounding areas of Shija hospital, Langol as a part of the observance.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, a special tree sapling plantation drive was held at Sun Club, Mongsangei on Thursday.
During the plantation drive, participants including Sun Club president Kh Surendra Singh planted 500 saplings in Boroimakhong, Mongsangei area to mark the significance of green cover for a healthy life and environment.
