Imphal, October 04 2024:
Naga Women's Union (NWU), in a plea for peace, offered its deep condolences to the grieving families who lost their beloved sons in the tragic incident of October 2 .
The union also conveyed wish for speedy recovery of all those injured on that fateful day.
Urging both Hunphun and Hungpung villages to adhere to the peace framework and reduce tensions, the NWU reminded all that "There are more elements that unite us than divide us," adding that "The intensity of the conflict is evident, but individuals, especially women and children, desire a society free from violence and conflict" .
The union continued that despite differing ideologies, particularly regarding traditional properties governed by customary institutions, both Hunphun and Hungpung share the common ancestral heritage.
A conflict between these two villages, part of a larger community, affects thousands, it added.
Calling for a swift resolution to tensions between the two villages, the union stressed that conflicts must be managed in a manner befitting civilised society.
It underscored the importance of accountability for every action taken, emphasising the far-reaching consequences of such actions.
The NWU then appealed for respect towards the noble call for peace by Tangkhul Shanao Long through the Pukreila Custom' of the Tangkhul tribe.
