Imphal, June 03 2025:
Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee convener Laishram Mema has advised Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to formulate strategies to restore normalcy in the state, cautioning that any attempts to distort the situation could lead to a dangerous outcome.
Briefing media persons on Tuesday, Laishram Mema stated that the Governor cannot remain silent on the May 20 Gwaltabi incident involving Mahar Regiment and recommended prompt actions to settle the issue at the earliest.
She termed alleged failure of the President 's Rule administration to resolve the issue as highly unfortunate, while also noting that Governor's silence on the issue incites further angst of the people.
According to Mema, the chief secretary had clarified that no order was issued to conceal the word 'Manipur' from Manipur State Transport bus carrying media persons to cover Shirui Lily festival on May 20 at Gwaltabi.
"If no such order was issued, it is natural for the people to question whether the Mahar Regiment was above the Manipur Governor and the chief secretary.
If no such order was issued, then why no action is taken against the Army unit till date," she questioned.
The convener then demanded clarification from the Governor within three days regarding the Gwaltabi incident.
