Imphal, July 31 2021: A team of Lamphel police led by SDPO Thomas Thokchom arrested 5 persons involved in stealing stolen assets of BSNL, today.

According to police, two of the five accused Sangomsung Jalus (19) s/o (L) Saidui Rahaman of Urup Awang Leikai and W Amir Khan (20) s/o Abdulhei of Sangaiyumpham Mairen Khun were caught red handed while carrying the stolen items in a rickshaw near the BSNL office at Lamphelpat They revealed that they had stolen some items from the same place earlier.

From their possession, a switchbox cable, coaxial cable, lead battery and some tools were recovered.

On further interrogation, it came to light that they were selling the stolen items to a godown near Hatta war cemetery belonging to Ojit Sk (35) s/o Bola SK of Sherpur village, Murshidabad West Bengal.

Immediately, the team rushed to Hatta and apprehended Hegin Haokip 32 s/o (L) Helkam Haokip of Nungba Bazar at present staying at Hatta and Helim SK 22 s/o Manarul SK of Murshidabad West Bengal at present staying at Hatta, but the owner of the godown was not present.

They disclosed that they were a part of the racket and disclosed that Thongam Phalguni (21) s/o (L) Deven of Lamphel Sanakeithel Pukhri Mapal is also involved.

Hence, the police team rushed to the spot and arrested Thongam Phalguni from his residence this morning.

The arrested persons were produced before the Court of Duty Magistrate Imphal West today with a prayer for remanding them to 3 days police custody by Lamphel police.

The Court on perusal of the case record and after hearing the statement of the 10 remanded them to three days police custody till August 2 .
