Imphal, January 30 2025:
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has resolved to submit memorandums to the chief ministers of the north eastern states, urging them to launch a joint anti-narco-terrorist campaign.
The decision was taken during a special general body meeting held on Thursday at its Lamphel office, COCOMI convenor Khuraijam Athouba said.
In the memorandum, COCOMI will call for a state of narco-terrorist emergency across the northeast and the establishment of an anti-narcotics enforcement agency for the region.
The meeting also adopted COCOMI's constitution, which includes 37 articles, confirming 55 CSOs and nine branch committees as member organisations.
The general body will comprise 183 members from the 64 organisations.
The position of coordinator has been converted to convenor, and 15 sub-committees have been formed, each led by a convenor selected during the meeting.
The executive body now consists of 30 members, and COCOMI will operate based on the executive committee's decisions.
Additionally, a 10-member consultative committee has been established.
As per the resolutions adopted, Athouba said, COCOMI will intensify its movements to address the Chin-Kuki narco-terrorist aggression in the state, push for an NRC update, oppose Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement, and launch an anti-narcotic campaign.
The committee also plans to launch an official website to facilitate public communication and serve as a resource centre.
Other planned activities include pressuring the government to secure and reopen the national highways, campaigning to protect the natural ecosystem, advocating for the rights and welfare of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), and working toward the repeal of AFSPA.
COCOMI also aims to establish diplomatic channels in consultation with intellectuals and experts to pave the way for dialogues with various agencies to resolve the crisis, Athouba said.
He further stated that COCOMI had urged the government to take necessary measures regarding the recently reported drug smuggling tunnel along the Myanmar-Mizoram border, as reported by News18, but no response has been received from either the state or central government.
He reiterated the demand for the Prime Minister and chief ministers of the north-eastern states to declare a state of narco-terrorist emergency along the India-Myanmar border and establish an anti-narcotics enforcement agency for the region.
