Irawat death/birth anniv observed across state

Imphal, September 26 2021:
The 70th death anniversary of Hijam Irawat was observed across the state as 'mourning day' under the aegis of Irawat Celebration Committee, Manipur on Sunday.
The main function was held at Irawat Bhawan with CPI national executive member Dr M Nara and CPI state secretary L Sotinkumar leading the participants in offering floral tributes to the statue of Hijam Irawat.
The party's secretariat members L Singhajit and RK Amusana along with district leaders and local committee leaders also attended the observance.
CPI Singjamei local council also observed the day at Singjamei Chinga, which has historical ties with the late leader.
In Bishnupur district, tarpan was offered to the late leader at the party office.
Dr Nara and Sotinkumar also attended another observance at Ningthoukhong Bazar public ground.
Similar observance programmes were also organised by CPI Thoubal district council and Wangkhem local council during which Sotinkumar held the state government responsible for the assassination of Zeliangrong leader Athuan Abonmai.
On theother hand, CPI-M observed the day along with Tarpan offering at Moirangkhom Loklaobung Hiden, another site associated with the late leader.
Representatives of the party's mass front SFI, DYFI, Loumee Marup, CITU and AAMDWA attended observance.
CPI-M Imphal city committee leader Hijam Indukumar of Moirangkhom Sougaijam Leirak, who is one of the nearest relatives of Hijam Irawat, and CPI-M Manipur secretariat member Sarat Salam led the participants in offering Tarpan.
At the occasion, party's state secretary Kshetrimayum Shanta appealed to the government to develop the site.
In Kakching district, Writers Association Kakching organised Jana Neta Irabot's 125th birth anniversary during which a novel titled 'Cheina' and penned by DIET Kakching former principal Birmangal Naorem of Kakching Khunyai Leikai was also released.
The observance programme held at the auditorium of Library and Information Centre, Kakching Phoushupat Leikai was attended by Kakching MLA M Rameshwar, Writers Association vice president Naorem Amuyaima and advisor Pukhrambam Nimai as chief guest, functional president and guest of honour respectively.
Macha Chanu Kakching president and Kakching Higher Secondary School lecturer Dr Nongmaithem Pramodini briefed the gathering on 'Cheina' while Pukhrambam Nimai, who retired as ZEO delivered a lecture on Neta Irabot and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The gathering also observed silence in to mourn the recent demise of Sahitya Akademi award recipient Raghu Leishangthem.
Irawat Celebration Committee (ICC) Ningthoukhong, Lions Club of Ningthoukhong, D- Cacus-Education centre, UCOBID and AISF also jointly celebrated the 125th Birth Anniversary of Jananeta Hijam Irawat at Ningthoukhong Public Park on Sunday.
The celebration was attended by ICC Ningthoukhon president Kh Jadhumani, social scientist Dr IS Konthoujam, LCN president Rk Nodiyachand and UCOBID president Th Norendro as presidium members.
Floral tributes were offered to the portrait of Jananeta Hijam Irawat, which was followed by a discussion on his vision for Manipur.
