Search operation conducted, arms seized

Imphal, July 25 2024: Cache of arms and ammunition was seized by security forces during search operations conducted in different parts of the state, on Thursday.

According to a police report, a combined team of Kangpokpi police and 33 AR conducted search operation in A Mongbung area under New Keithelmanbi police station in Kangpokpi district from 5:30 to 8:30 am leading to recovery of a bolt-action improvised .303 rifle, two bolt-action .303 rifles, two 12-gauge single-barrel shotguns, four HE 36 handgrenades, one long-range improvised mortar (Pumpi), one Boafeng long-range set, one Boafeng set, five rounds of .303 ammunition, five rounds of 7.62 mm AK-47 ammunition, 12 rounds of 12-gauge ammunition and a Mark III A2 grenade.

Additionally, Kakching police commandos along with AR personnel conducted area domination and search operation in Waikhong Louphuching area under Waikhong police station and recovered one 81 mm mortar shell (misfired and rusted), two 36 HE grenades and two 2-inch smoke shells.

Between 7:50 am and 9:20 am on Thursday, a combined team of Imphal West district police, CRPF and BSF personnel also conducted area domination, patrolling and sanitisation operation at Kadangband Part IT under Lamsang police station during which 62 houses were searched and 154 individuals verified.
