Imphal, April 23 2025:
Stressing the need to scrutinise all news being uploaded and circulated on social media platforms without actual verification, Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykisan stated that news published of broadcast by print or electronic media are trusted more by the people and has a greater impact.
He made the statement while extending financial assistance to Impact TV News cameraman Khundrakpam Inaocha and news reader Okram Sororendro at their Thangmeiband and Beni Leirak residences respectively on Wednesday.
Acknowledging that the media can influence the people, he, however, stressed the urgent need to verify news contents on social media platforms especially with the rise in circulation of fake news.
"Fake news may temporarily elevate or distress the people but the news published by print and electronic media are generally trusted by the people and have a greater impact," he reiterated.
Regarding the assistance, he recounted his promise to help media persons long before he stepped into politics.
The MLA continued that the media play an important role, especially in a state like Manipur and urged the media not to publish any sensitive news which could disturb the peace in the state.
Noting alarming spirit of revenge boiling in the hearts of the people at the moment, the MLA urged for collective efforts to revive the virtues of humanity.
Pushing the people into becoming a militia would never bring peace and development, he remarked.
Calling upon the people to support the role played bymedia persons in not only disseminating information but also in shaping the future of the state; Joykisan assured to extend any possible help from his side in installing a lift at Manipur Press Club for the elderly and differently-able persons.
The exact schedule would be determined after the conduct of the election of new office bearers of AMWJU on May 1, he conveyed.
