Imphal, November 22 2024:
Expressing concern over repeated attacks on 'Haomee' villages by Chin-Kuki-Zo terrorists, the Federation of Haomee (FoH) has called for formation of Haomee Village Volunteer Force to safeguard every indigenous/Haomee village on their own without relying on government security forces.
According to a statement issued by FoH vice president Dr K Heera Kabui, Kuki militants launched attacks on farmers who were harvesting paddy at Sanao Chingjin in Kangpokpi district on November 11, resulting in injuries to one Tangkhul farmer.
Subsequently, on November 21, Kuki militants fired sophisticated weaponry at Haomee village located in Thamnapokpi.
The Federation suspected that these attacks are part of a recurring pattern, as Chin-Kuki-Zo terrorists have previously targeted several Haomee villages, and torched vehicles, and are likely to continue their assaults in the future.
It then stressed the urgent need to establish a Haomee Village Volunteer Force to address this ongoing threat.
While noting that deploying government forces in every Haomee village and in every fringe village permanently is not feasible, the Federation believed that Haomee Village Volunteer Force could be deployed permanently in every village and protect fringe villages on their own.
The FoH then urged the government to facilitate formation of a village force capable of effectively countering attacks from Chin-Kuki-Zo terrorists.
