Imphal, January 22 2025:
Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM), general headquarters, has strongly urged the authorities to immediately revoke or cancel the order dated November 12, 2024, issued by the Tribal Affairs & Hills department regarding appointment of Tribal Research Institute (TRI) administrative officer-cum-research officer John Gaidingam D as the deputy director in-charge of the directorate of tribal affairs & hills.
TYCM, in a statement, expressed surprise over the additional responsibilities assigned to John Gaidingam D, citing his inability to maintain physical presence or effectively discharge his duties at the TRI office.
It highlighted that the TRI office has not been functioning properly since May 3, 2023 .
Both the director and the administrative officer-cum-research officer have been operating from the directorate of Tribal Affairs & Hills, leaving the TRI office non-functional, it said, raising concerns about its capacity to serve tribal communities.
An inspection by TYCM-GHQ on December 17 last year, accompanied by media persons, revealed that only three staff members were present at the TRI office.
The offices of the director and research officer-cum-ad-ministrative officer were locked, and no programmes had been conducted since May, 2023 .
Additionally, the office was in a deplorable state, with animal waste scattered inside, reflecting poor maintenance.
TYCM-GHQ submitted a representation to the commissioner-cum-secretary of Tribal Affairs & Hills department, on December 19, 2024, requesting revocation of the order and urging physical presence of TRI staff at the institute.
Despite repeated appeals, no action has been taken to address these concerns, prompting TYCM to intensify its demand for immediate intervention, the statement added.
