Sit-ins demand release of 6 arrested VVs

A sit-in protest was organised by Bengi Meira Paibi at Ben-gi playground on Saturday condemning Salungpham incident on December 14, where a combined team of Manipur Police and commando gunned down a village volunteer and six arrested village volunteers with arms.
During the protest, the agitators chanted slogans and held placards such as 'No arrest/detention of VVs', 'Stop intra-community killing', 'Release six arrested VVs without any condition' and 'Repeal AFSPA immediately'.
Similarly, Bishnupur Akoiba Apunba Lup, Lumlangdong Keithel Development Committee and Bishnupur Bazar Board held a sit-in protest at Thinungei Bazar on Saturday demanding unconditional release of six VVs arrested in Salungpham on December 14 and dismissal of the police personnel involved in the case.
Speaking at the protest, COCOMI Women's Wing convener Y Leirik Leima stated that Ws have never attacked state or central forces, so, state forces turning against their own blood brother is very unfortunate.
She further cautioned that if the six arrested VVs are not released then they will launch an intense agitation.
At the protest, the agitators held banner and placards such as 'We condemn Salungpham killing', 'No arrest of VVs', 'Fire police commandos connected with killing of W' and 'Repeal AFSPA from all of Kangleipak' .
