CATA mourns demise of Debkumar Bose

Cine Artistes & Technicians' Association (CATA), Manipur mourned the untimely demise of filmmaker Debkumar Bose, the first director of Manipuri feature film, who passed away on October 18 at the age of 91 .
In a release, CATA joint secretary N Biswajit remembered Debkumar, a trailblazer in Manipuri cinema, directing the first full-length Manipuri feature film 'Matamgi Manipur' and winning the prestigious Presidential Medal at the 20th National Film Festival.
Regarded as the father of Manipuri cinema by many, Debkumar Bose, who also had directed several Bengali, Assamese and Oriya films, introduced Manipuri cinema to the world with 'Matamgi Manipur' and laid the foundation for the Manipuri film industry.
While remembering his cinematic legacy, it is worth mentioning that CATA, in collaboration with Karam Monomohan Memorial Trust, had honoured Debkumar Bose with the prestigious Karam Monomohan Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018 for his extraordinary contribution in carving the fine body of work in 'Matamgi Manipur' and for the dedicated service he had rendered for the growth of regional and national cinema, the statement added.
