SW Dept, Rajendra provide succor to orphans

Along with officials from Social Welfare Department and District Child Protection Unit, Thoubal; social worker N Rajendra alias Boy conducted a visit to assess living condition of four orphans residing in Khangabok Part II Meishnam Leikai, whose house had also suffered damage in a thunderstorm.
During the visit, N Rajendro, the brother of chief minister N Biren, extended electric loom and two bags of rice; Department of Social Welfare Manipur State Women's Development managing director provided a sewing machine and yarn and social worker Mutum Robindro handed over a sum of Rs 20,000 to the four girl orphans.
The four orphans were daughters of late Laishram Ibungo and late Akashini of Khangabok Part II Meishnam Leikai.
Speaking at the inspection visit, WF Khangabok member Nonglen Khundrakpam recalled that both parents of the four orphans died due to illness three years ago.
The four orphans stayed at their parents' house and locals extended all possible help to them.
Unfortunately, their house was damaged by the thunderstorm on May 5 and they have been staying in a make-shift tent set up in their courtyard.
N Ranjendro stated that members of WF Khangabok met his brother chief minister N Biren 15 days ago and talked about the inconveniences faced by the four orphans.
Upon hearing their story and at the instruction of chief minister, the inspection was conducted, he continued, while assuring that all necessary initiatives for their welfare will be taken up.
Under Sponsorship and Forster Cafe Programme, initiative has been taken up for providing a monthly amount of Rs 4,000 each to the two orphans who are under 18 years of age and health cards will also be provided to them, he added.
