Students don black badges in observance of Black Day

Imphal, January 20 2025:
Ahead of the observance of the 286th anniversary of the sacrilegious burning of Puyas on January 22, students of various educational institutions under the aegis of International Observation Committee on Puya Meithaba (ICOP), Kangleipak wore black badges to commence the observance of Black Day on Monday.
In a press release issued by its co-convenor, ICOP said that as part of the Black Day observance, educational institutions in the state would fly the seven-colour flag at half-mast and the students would wear black badges for three days till January 22 to commemorate the burning of the Puyas.
The observance kicked off at Kindergarten Montessori School, Takyel Kolom Leikai on Monday in the presence of school principal Dr L Dhaneshwor, ICOP convenor Moirangthem Naokhomba Meetei, and WAMA vice-president Dr Waikhom Gojen Meetei as presidium members.
A two-minute silence was also observed on the occasion.
Similar observances were also held at Mannu School in New Checkon, Halley English School in Khurai Soibam Leikai, Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School in Porompat, Lamjing Meira Shindamshang in Pourabi, Konsam Tomba and Sachi School in Khurai Laishram Leikai, EK Higher Secondary School in Sangakpham, Alpha BCI Memorial Academy in Thangmeiband, Vale Academy in Mongsangei, Scholars Academy in Hiyangthang, Universal Students' Academy in Singjamei and Dynamic Education Foundation in Bamdiar.
