Chingu Nongpok Apanba Erat Thouni held

The annual worshipping ceremony of Chingu Nongpok Apanba at Nungjaopokpi Nongpok Ingourok sacred site in Thoubal district, which is believed to be a place where Nongpok Apanba used to sharpen his sword and spear, was held on Sunday.
Nongpok Ningthou Nungjaopokpi Thangfengnung Thougallup Nongpok Ingourok has been hosting the ritual every year on the 28th day of Meetei lunar month Lamta.
According to Thougallup advisor Dr Keisham Bheigyachandra, the site is associated with the legend of an incarnate of Wangam Nongpok Apanbi (Panthoibi), who got married to Khaba king.
When she ran off from the palace of Khaba king, she was chased by the subjects of the king.
She then turned into a karge boulder where Nongpok Apanba sharpened his sword and spear to face off the subjects of Khaba King.
The sacred site at Ingourok has been known as Nungjaopokpi since time immemorial, he said, adding that every year, the Thougallup host the ceremony on the 28th day of Lamta month.
Apart from religious rituals, Thang-Ta performances were also showcased as part of the event.
People from different parts of the state came to offer prayers at the sacred site.
