UG cadres arrested; arms, cash recovered

Imphal, April 15 2025:
Central forces and police carried out a series of coordinated operations across the state from April 12 to 14, leading to the arrest of several members of proscribed organisations and recovery of a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives, as well as cash.
According to police control room statements, an active member of PREPAK (Pro) namely Saikhom Sandip Singha (32) of Sonai Bazar Saikhom Leikai, in Cachar, Assam, was arrested from Bidya Nagar in Jiribam district on Monday.
Another active cadre of the same organisation, Irengbam Robinson Singh (25) of Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou in Bishnupur district, was also rounded up from his residence on the same day.
A large number of casings of different calibres along with a mobile phone and SIM card were seized from him.
On the same day, a major arms recovery was made at Natum Ching, Sanasabi in Imphal East district.
Items recovered included three hand grenades, eight detonators, four tube launchers, an INSAS LMG magazine, various ammunition and empty cases, rubber bullets, a para bomb, two BP jacket plates, and a bulletproof jacket.
On Sunday, temporary shelters believed to be part of a training camp for village volunteers were dismantled at Gehnol village in Churachandpur district.
Police also arrested one Ahanthem Rajesh alias Nandakishore, a cadre of the Pam bei-led UNLF, from Wangkhei in Imphal East on the charge of involvement in extortion activities.
A Berreta pistol with 15 rounds, and two mobile phones were recovered from Rajesh with subsequent raid at his hideout leading to the seizure of an SMG carbine gun, a 9 mm pistol, four magazines, a hand grenade, four tube launchers, live and used ammunition, a wireless handset, and Rs 69,000 in cash.
In a separate operation on the same day, another Pambei-led UNLF member, Laishram Ramesh Singh (44) of Khundrakpam Awang Leikai, was arrested for his involvement in collecting extortion money from government officials.
Police seized two mobile phones and Rs 21.5 lakh in cash from his possession.
Earlier, on April 12, police arrested a KYKL cadre, Moirangthem Champion Singh alias Marjit (21) from Bishnupur near the forest gate.
