State's handloom items showcased at Delhi expo

Imphal, January 13 2025:
Manipur Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited organised a National Handloom Expo (Gandhi Bunkar Mela) at Handloom Haat, Janpath in New Delhi.
The expo organised with the financial assistance of the office of Development Commissioner (handloom), Ministry of Textiles, commenced from January 11, though formal inauguration function was held on Monday with development commissioner (handloom) Dr M Bina as chief guest.
Delhi's tax commissioner N Banita Devi and some state officials including principal secretary (commerce and industries) Arunkumar Sinha, Manipur Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited managing director E Jiten were also present at the opening function.

As chief guest of the event, Dr M Bina said National Handloom Expos are held regularly in the national capital but the present one being organised by the Manipur Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited is unique, while the theme of the present expo and display are exceptional and well-organised.
"Handloom and handicraft products of weavers/artisans of Manipur are attractive and in high demand from people outside the state but lack exposure and marketing," she said.
Meanwhile, E Jiten informed that 80 stalls including 13 from Manipur are taking part in the expo and exhibiting their products.
He said that the number of visitors at the expo is exceedingly high along with disclosing that a Kouna stall of Khangabok alone sold products worth more than Rs 50,000 on Sunday while another stall from Kashmir had sale proceeds of over Rs 1 lakh within few hours.
