Imphal, March 11 2025:
Lamkang Kurchuknao Kunpun (LKK/ Lamkang Students' Union) criticised the government decision to annul the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and fence the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur sector.
In a release, LKK expressed strong resentment that such policies will divide communities, disrupt livelihoods, and impede progress.
"We consider the government s decision as a grave misstep that directly targets the rights, dignity, and heritage of the Naga people.
These actions are a direct assault on the freedom, unity, and shared future of the Naga communities across borders, said the Union, adding that construction of border fences represents an aggressive effort to divide Naga families, communities, and territories, in total disregard of the Naga people s historical connection to the land and their right to live without arbitrary restrictions.
LKK also criticised the government's failure to recognise unique and historical circumstances of the Naga people.
"This is not just an issue of borders security, but of cultural survival and historical rights," it maintained, and urged the government to reconsider the 'ill-advised' course of action, reinstate the FMR, and immediately cease the construction of divisive border fences.
