Kangpokpi, August 09 2025:
The Working Committee of Kuki Civil Society Organisations (WCKCSOs) has withdrawn its economic blockade along National Highway-2 in Kangpokpi district, after Foothill Naga Co-ordination Committee (FNCC) lifted a 20-day blockade against Kuki-Zo commuters between Kangpokpi and Churachandpur.
The blockade, which began at 7:00 AM on August 8, was launched as an indefinite protest against travel restrictions on Kuki-Zo people since July 15.WCKCSOs said that the move was prompted by "government inaction" over what it termed an "undemocratic and targeted restriction" along their lifeline route.
The committee credited the Governor for intervening to restore free movement and thanked United Naga Council (UNC) for its "mature stand" in localising the issue and upholding humanitarian principles during a sensitive period.
"Although delayed and at the cost of hardship for our people, we acknowledge the Governor's intervention and the role of UNC in ending the blockade against Kuki-Zo community," said WCKCSOs spokesperson Thangminlen Kipgen.
They also thanked well-wishers and the general Kuki-Zo population for their solidarity, noting that womenfolk largely monitored the blockade at Kangpokpi DHQ .
While ending the protest, WCKCSOs vowed not to allow "any organisation to dictate terms along our lifelines" and urged the community to remain vigilant and prepared for future democratic protests if required.
With the withdrawal, normal vehicular movement along NH-2 is expected to resume, easing essential supplies to affected areas.
