Foundation laid for water supply scheme

Imphal, August 08 2021: 44 Assam Rifles of 22 Sect/IGAR (East) organised Chai Pe Charcha with veterans and veer naris of Army and Assam Rifles in Tamenglong district to commemorate Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav'.

According tp PIB Defence, the commandant and all ranks of 44 AR paid homage to the valiant soldiers and remembered their sacrifices and service rendered by the veterans during the programme.

The Commandant along with his wife interacted with the veterans and veer naris and inquired about the problems being faced by them.

He assured them ofcontinuous support from the Unit in solving their problems in future.

He also briefed the veterans about various activities undertaken by the Battalion and asked suggestions and guidance.

The event was attended by 21 veterans and 3 veer naris.

The battalion also laid a foundation stone of water supply scheme at Chalwa village of Kangpokpi district as part of the Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav on Sunday and performed Bhumi Pujan in the presence of village church pastor, headman and chairman.

The pastor held special prayer session for smooth and hindrance free execution of the project together by locals and Assam Rifles, said PIB.

Chalwa village has approximately 250 houses with 1800-2000 population.

As the villagers generally face acute shortage of drinking water during the dry season, they approached the Gelnel COB of 44 Assam Rifles for provision of water supply scheme.

Understanding the hardships faced by the villagers and lack of basic essential amenities, as first step towards realising local population dreams together with the Assam Rifles, the blessings of the God were sought in early completion of the task, the PIB further said.

While addressing the attendees, the second in command said that with this project not only people will have access to clean drinking water but will also generate employment while executing it.

Laying emphasis on importance of clean and safe drinking water he added that when water supply comes from safe and more accessible water sources, people spend less time and physical efforts to fetch it.
